Here are some tips and access options for travelling to Pellworm for people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility. If you have specific travel plans, it is advisable to call the shipping company on 04844-753 so that precise arrangements can be made.

A severely disabled person's pass with a B (see Fig. 1 below) entitles an accompanying person to travel free of charge. An ID card with a token (Fig. 2) also exempts the person concerned from travelling costs. It is not necessary to purchase a ticket. Guide dogs travelling with us are of course free of charge.

Severely disabled travellers with authorisation (ID card with token) are transported free of charge on scheduled services. In this case, the ferry and the Pellworm bus are regarded as a regular service.

The nearest car park for vehicles is in front of the dyke crossing to the landing stage, so people with reduced mobility should first be taken to the ferry landing stage before the ferry trip. A wooden staircase with steps leads over the dyke. As the island of Pellworm is large and extensive, it is advisable to take a vehicle with you to the island.

If you are travelling by train via Husum, the train journey ends at the station in Husum, from where a bus will take you directly to the jetty on Nordstrand.

On Nordstrand there is a covered shelter next to the bus stop for the waiting time until the ferry departure and our lounge, which is barrier-free accessible. There is a bell at the window for tickets or assistance for people travelling alone and in need of help. Please ring the bell - we will be happy to help you. If the ticket counter is not manned, please contact the ferry crew directly, who will be on site when the ferry arrives.

Alternatively, you can also call us in advance for the journey to Pellworm on 04844 753 so that our assistance can be planned in. You can access the ferry via a spacious access ramp, which is also used by cars. It is possible to linger on the car deck during the journey. There is a small saloon and a disabled toilet at ground level.

The galley is not accessible for wheelchair users due to a few steps down to the lower deck.

Once you arrive on Pellworm, a bus is waiting at the jetty to take you to the Old Harbour or the Kurmittelhaus free of charge. Here too, it is highly advisable to inform us in advance so that the bus driver can assist with ramps.

In the winter period from October to March, only one VW bus is sometimes used - please inform the NPDG before your arrival so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

Participation in our daily island tour (April to October) is also possible with a wheelchair, the ticket is subject to a charge and advance booking is recommended as there is only limited capacity.

A certain degree of mobility is required for the discovery tours with the MS "NORDFRIESLAND". The ship can only be reached via a gangway, which is not wide enough for wheelchairs and is usually too steep.

In any case, we recommend contacting us in advance by telephone on 04844-753 to discuss the exact details.

There is no disabled toilet on board. There is a disabled-friendly toilet at the Old Harbour about 300 metres away at the bus stop in front of the Kurmittelhaus or near the "Pellewelle" swimming pool.

We wish you a pleasant stay on Pellworm and will be happy to answer any further questions you may have.
